Campus police officers at the University of California at Los Angeles took a suspected assailant into custody this afternoon after a male student slashed the throat of a female classmate in a chemistry laboratory, the Los Angeles Times reported. The attack occurred between class sessions, but numerous students were in the lab at the time. Witnesses said the woman staggered out of the lab with assistance from a teacher’s assistant who applied pressure to her neck. The woman’s injuries were described as critical, and she was undergoing surgery at a hospital later in the day.
