The governing board of the University of California Hastings College of the Law made a last-minute decision last month to withdraw its name as a sponsor of an on-campus conference promoting Palestinian rights after fielding complaints from Jewish groups, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The night before the start of the event, the board voted to “take all steps necessary to remove the UC Hastings name and brand” and canceled a speech by the law school’s chancellor. In response, nearly all of Hastings’ tenured faculty members wrote a letter to the board saying the action ”undermines our commitment to maintaining both the college’s fiscal viability and its high standards,” the newspaper reported.
