UC-Hastings Backed Away From Palestinian Conference, Newspaper Says

April 13, 2011, 11:43 am

The governing board of the University of California Hastings College of the Law made a last-minute decision last month to withdraw its name as a sponsor of an on-campus conference promoting Palestinian rights after fielding complaints from Jewish groups, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The night before the start of the event, the board voted to “take all steps necessary to remove the UC Hastings name and brand” and canceled a speech by the law school’s chancellor. In response, nearly all of Hastings’ tenured faculty members wrote a letter to the board saying the action ”undermines our commitment to maintaining both the college’s fiscal viability and its high standards,” the newspaper reported.

It’s ironic perhaps that Richard North Patterson’s novel, “Exile,” was centered in the San Francisco area.

Great read–a page-turner with as much truth as fiction. It does a nice job of describing the U.S./Israel/Palestine conundrum.

Why is it that even the slightest infraction on the part of Israel (often in response to suicide bombings and rocket attacks)… receive such widespread condemnation from faculty members at college campuses in Northern CA, yet they remain silent in the face of clear atrocities against the Israeli citizens by groups like Hamas which sanction not only sanction/encourage the killing of what they refer to as “infidels” (aka Christians, Jews, Hindu’s and others they claim are “non-believers”) and have as part of their stated charter… the goal of wiping Israel off the map. It’s ridiculous!!

Loss of human life on all sides should be mourned and condemned, but then again, most on the far-left who do the preaching from the comfort of their university settings… haven’t experienced life surrounded by neighbors who want them dead… and would go so far as to strap their own children with bombs to accomplish this task. The only way innocent Palestians caught in the cross-fire will end up with a free state of their own… is when people stop blindly focusing on Israel and target the violent ideology of groups like Hamas and Hezbollah and the leaders of countries like Iran and Syria who fund them. Wake up Northern CA!

Shame on Hastings for capitulating to those who are afraid of students hearing from both sides in the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Perhaps if these shadowy “Jewish groups” continue down this road, the illusion of Israel being a democracy will continue to be questioned. Kaddafi, Ahmadenijad, and Assad would be pleased with this effort to silence the voices of dissent.
