The University of Hawaii-Manoa must immediately come up with an additional $14-million in budget cuts, the chancellor, Viginia Hinshaw, wrote to department heads this week. In a memorandum quoted by The Honolulu Advertiser, she acknowledged with regret that such “rapid financial cuts” would probably require faculty and staff job losses.
