U. of California Will Face More Cuts Next Year, Its President Warns

August 20, 2009, 8:01 pm

The University of California can expect another round of deep budget cuts next year, when the state’s federal stimulus funds will be depleted, the system’s president said in a speech today, the Associated Press reported. The president, Mark G. Yudof, predicted the 10-campus system would have to run on about $600-million less. Both of the state’s university systems and its community colleges had to deal with budget cuts in the hundreds of millions of dollars this year as the state sought to close a $25-billion deficit.

One Response to U. of California Will Face More Cuts Next Year, Its President Warns

Now if I was afraid of getting an IOU from the State of California for my state tax returns, this is what I would do: I would raise the number of dependents to a very high value, ensuring that no money is deducted. Then, in April *I* pay the state and do not have to worry about an IOU. And I can only pay the state if I have the money (which many will not). So, I would guess that these next round of budget cuts are not even considering how REALLY devastated the state is going to be; I doubt anyone is really planning for the coming catastrophe which will be much worse than expected.
