The two highest-ranking administrators at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences have been pressured to resign, The Washington Post reports.
James Scott, dean of medicine, was informed that he could lose his severance package if he did not step down, according to sources who spoke to the newspaper. He has announced plans to return to his full-time teaching position in January.
John Williams, senior vice provost and vice president for health affairs, reportedly told his senior staff that he would leave by the end of the year because university officials wanted him out.
The university, which has been reviewing the medical school’s organizational structure, did not explain why the two are leaving. The school’s accrediting body put it on probation two years ago because of alleged problems in its academic programs. The probation was later lifted.
