Tim Wu, a Columbia Law School professor known for coining the term “net neutrality,” has been named a senior adviser to the Federal Trade Commission. Mr. Wu will work on “consumer-protection and competition issues that affect the Internet and mobile markets,” according to an announcement from Columbia. The professor’s most recent book is The Master Switch, which chronicles the consolidation of information industries. “Although he may be known for his work on net neutrality, here at the FTC he’ll be working on issues at the nexus of consumer protection, competition, law, and technology,” said Jon Leibowitz, the agency’s chairman.
