Gov. Rick Perry of Texas has issued an executive order calling for a comprehensive review of cost-efficiency in the state’s public higher-education system. The order lists a dozen areas to be considered, including faculty workload, basing state spending on student course-completion rates, and consolidating or eliminating academic programs. It asks for a report with “practices, policies, and recommendations for cost-containment” to be submitted by November 1, 2010.
