SUNY Taps National Science Foundation Official to Lead Research Arm

The State University of New York’s chancellor, Nancy L. Zimpher, announced on Wednesday that she was recommending Timothy L. Killeen, the National Science Foundation’s assistant director for geosciences, to become SUNY’s vice chancellor for research and president of its research foundation. If confirmed by the boards of the university and the foundation, he would fill a permanent role vacated last summer when the foundation’s previous president was dismissed in the wake of allegations that he had violated state ethics laws by giving a no-show job to the daughter of a former State Senate majority leader. In an interview with the Journal News, Mr. Killeen said he was committed to “transparency and integrity” at the research foundation.
