Iraq’s prime minister has suspended classes for a week and banned political activities at the country’s second-largest university following student protests at Al-Mustansiriya University, in Baghdad. The Iraqi government said that certain sectarian groups had been using student unions at the university to dictate what is and isn’t taught, but questions have been raised about the government’s committment to freedom of speech on university campuses.
