Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania has settled a lawsuit spawned by earlier rounds of litigation over its athletic program’s compliance with Title IX, the federal gender-equity law. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the university and two women in the athletics department have asked a federal judge to dismiss the workers’ civil-rights lawsuit against Slippery Rock; terms of the settlement were not released. The two employees—a coach and the athletic director’s assistant—had accused the university of retaliating against them for their testimony in an original Title IX case, in 2006, and in a subsequent action over Slippery Rock’s compliance with the settlement terms of the 2006 case. The university has denied retaliating against them.
