The U.S. Senate education committee will take up on Wednesday a bill to reauthorize the No Child Left Behind law that would require state and local education agencies to report on the achievement of students taught by the graduates of teacher-preparation programs within the state—an idea borrowed from President Obama’s plan for improving teacher education, offered last month. The bill would also tie teacher-training grants to student outcomes, linking grant renewal to student achievement.
