Scientific-Journal Retractions Jumped Tenfold in Last 20 Years, Analysis Finds

A data analysis conducted by Thomson Reuters for Times Higher Education, a British magazine, has found that the rate at which scientific journal articles are being retracted has increased roughly tenfold over the past two decades, a jump the authors attribute to greater pressure on researchers to publish and improved systems for detection.

A totally meaningless report until such times that Universities act upon the discovery and demote those found guilty of forging work.

The publication pressure has reached absurd levels, leading to all sorts of malpractice, of greater or lesser degrees, that are occasionally discussed in this newspaper. No one condones fraudulent work, but the demand for publications needs to be dialed back considerably.
