Point Loma Nazarene University, a San Diego institution, faces a trial in September over accusations that in 1982 it assigned a ministry student to work as a summer intern with a pastor in Berkeley, Calif., even though it knew the student had a criminal conviction for child molestation on his record, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. While working with the pastor, the student lived with his family and molested his two young children, a boy and a girl, the lawsuit says. The student subsequently admitted to the abuse and served time in prison, where he is now after additional sex offenses against other children. The lawsuit, which was filed in 2008, seeks unspecified monetary damages. The university has sought to have it dismissed based on the statute of limitations, but two courts have rejected that argument, most recently this month. Neither the university nor its lawyers would comment to the newspaper.
