Philip Levine, 83, an emeritus professor of English at California State University at Fresno who won a Pulitzer Prize for his poems in 1995, will be the next poet laureate of the United States, The New York Times reported late Tuesday. His selection is to be announced Wednesday by James Billington, the librarian of Congress, the newspaper said. The Chronicle profiled Mr. Levine in 1992.
