Penn State Trustee Apologizes for Speculating About Campus Cover-Up of Sandusky Scandal

Keith E. Masser, vice chairman of Pennsylvania State University’s Board of Trustees, has apologized for saying that he believes that campus officials might have covered up the child-sex-abuse scandal involving Jerry Sandusky, a former assistant football coach. The Centre Daily Times reports that Mr. Masser apologized this morning after making his comments last week in an interview with the Associated Press. “It is wrong to speculate about outcomes and is not constructive to the legal process,” he wrote in a statement to fellow trustees posted on the board’s Web site. Before he apologized, a Penn State alumni group had called on Mr. Masser to resign.
