Acceptance into Penn State University’s Schreyer Honors College comes with a $3,500 annual merit scholarship. In a fund-raising appeal, parents of students in the program are encouraging other parents who have not applied for financial aid for their children to consider giving the money back, the Associated Press reports. Lee Andes, president of the National Association of State Student Grant and Aid Programs, called the approach unusual, but said, “It doesn’t surprise me to hear people getting creative.”
