Parsons the New School for Design on Tuesday called off a planned workshop by the controversial fashion designer John Galliano, who lost his job two years ago over an anti-Semitic tirade that was caught on video, according to The New York Times.

In a written statement on Tuesday, Parsons officials said that a condition of its agreement to hold Mr. Galliano’s workshop had included plans for a larger forum that would facilitate “a frank discussion of his career.” The officials said an agreement could not be reached with Mr. Galliano on the details of that forum, so the workshop would not go on as planned.

Parsons officials said previously that having Mr. Galliano on the campus would be difficult but that students could learn from his successes and failures. An online petition protesting Mr. Galliano’s workshop gathered more than 2,000 signatures, the Times reported.
