Responding to student demand, Northeastern University plans to change its well-known co-op program so that students can graduate in four years, not five, with less work experience on their résumés but with an easier path to graduate degrees. According to The Boston Globe, the university’s signature program, which “has launched the careers of tens of thousands of Bostonians,” has been forced to adapt as the university itself has shifted from a vocationally oriented commuter school to a selective research institution.

This is sad. Co-op should be the future of all higher education. Experience is just as important, if not more, as lectures and labs.
