In the wake of the NCAA’s firm stance during a meeting with political and higher-education leaders from North Dakota on Friday, the State Board of Higher Education voted unanimously today to “substantially complete” the process of retiring the University of North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux nickname and logo by December 31. The two-hour conversation with NCAA officials in Indianapolis last week was private, but an article in the Grand Forks Herald has details of the arguments state officials raised.
