New York City Seeks Proposals for Applied-Science Research Facility

New York City is putting out a wanted sign for scientific researchers. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced today that the city seeks proposals from a university, applied-science organization, or related institution to develop and operate an applied-science research facility. Municipal officials have pledged to make a capital contribution to the project and may supply land for the center, which would focus on fields that “present significant opportunities for commercialization.” Under the mayor, New York has sought to encourage more local business spinoffs from research done at city universities and laboratories.
