An Israeli decision to limit or deny visas to foreigners visiting Palestinian areas has begun to affect academics, with the barring this week from the West Bank of a foreign lecturer at a Palestinian university, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. The clampdown began in June, when Israel began issuing “Palestinian Authority Only” visas to tourists visiting the West Bank. The U.S. State Department has called the new Israeli policy “unacceptable.”

Imagine the outrage. It will no doubt be similar to the consternation expressed by the State Department and foreign ministries throughout europe overthe refusal of arab and islamic states to invite Israeli scholars to their campuses.

Marty is at it again. I hope you at least know that Palestine is not israeli territory. Even the average jeanne knows that!

Reading the Chronicle regularly, it is striking that only negative stories about Israel are reported. News is cherry picked for negativity, and I have never seen an alternative viewpoint in any of this coverage. Additionally, there is no coverage of innovative educational programs, excellence in education and research, orcontributions of Israeli scholars. This is what is “unacceptable”.
