The Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science has dropped a $125-million lawsuit against the County of Los Angeles that stemmed from the county’s decision two years ago to turn the university’s teaching hospital, long criticized for providing substandard care, into an outpatient clinic, thereby casting adrift the university’s 248 medical residents. According to the Los Angeles Times, the university will receive, in return for dropping the lawsuit, favorable rental terms on county-owned buildings and a long-term schedule of payments due in settlement of an age-discrimination lawsuit.
