The top court in Massachusetts decided today that illegal drugs allegedly found in two students’ dormitory room at Boston College could not be used as evidence in their trial, The Boston Globe reported. At issue was whether campus police officers were legally authorized to search the students’ room. The Supreme Judicial Court determined that the students had not fully consented to a search, overturning an appeals-court ruling that, because of a campus weapons ban, the officers were within their rights to enter the room and do a “plain-view search,” according to the Associated Press.
