The John Bates Clark Medal, a major prize given annually to an economist under the age of 40, has been awarded to Jonathan Levin, a professor of economics at Stanford University, the American Economic Association announced today. Mr. Levin, who earned his doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1999, has studied market design in health care, timber, and subprime mortgages. Last year he co-authored a paper that applied game theory to early-admissions programs. Previous Clark medalists include Paul A. Samuelson, Milton Friedman, Joseph A. Stiglitz, Paul Krugman, and Steven Levitt.
