Libyan Students in North America May Soon Have Access to Frozen Scholarship Funds

The Canadian Bureau of International Education announced on Friday that it expected to be able to regain access in the next few days to Libyan-government scholarship funds for students in the United States and Canada. The funds, which support about 2,500 students in North America, are in an offshore Libyan-owned bank account that has been frozen because of the civil war. The Canadian bureau manages the scholarship program, which was set to run out of money at the end of May if new funds were not made available. If they are not able to pay their tuition and other living expenses, Libyan students risk losing their visa status.
