An appeals court in Louisiana has ruled that Tulane University does not have to reopen the H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, its separate women’s college that Tulane merged with its undergraduate college after Hurricane Katrina, according to The Times-Picayune. The ruling is part of a long court battle between Tulane and a descendant of a 19th-century donor, who was supported by some Newcomb alumnae.
