Judge Dismisses College’s Challenge of Rule on Contraception Coverage

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Wheaton College, in Illinois, against the Obama administration over a rule that would require the evangelical institution to offer health insurance that covers the cost of contraception, the Chicago Tribune reported. The decision, issued on Friday by Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle of the U.S. District Court in Washington, came two weeks after the college was granted an additional year to meet the requirement. Judge Huvelle ruled that Wheaton’s lawsuit was premature because the government would not enforce the mandate against the college until August 2013 and has promised to revise the rule to accommodate some religious institutions before it goes into effect.
