U. of South Carolina Library Acquires Vast Hemingway Collection

A physician in Mississippi, Edgar Grissom, spent 50 years collecting rare works from Hemingway, and is now donating them to the University of South Carolina. The collection consists of more than 1,200 copies of novels, including first editions, and 2,500 other items, such as editor’s proofs. “It’s like an Easter-egg hunt. You just don’t know what’s going to pop up,” says Mr. Grissom.

University officials said the collection is so broad that it makes the school a top research center for the study of Hemingway.
