U. of Wyoming Sped Up Removal of Anti-Coal Artwork, Records Show
When University of Wyoming officials removed a sculpture criticized by politicians, they told the public the removal was on schedule and because of water damage to the artwork. But e-mail messages obtained by a Casper, Wyo., newspaper show instead that administrators were hoping to calm angry state legislators.
Carbon Sink, a whirlpool twist of coal and charred, pine beetle-killed lumber spiraling into the ground, was installed on the University of Wyoming campus in July 2011…. Emails show the sculpture was quietly removed in May, a year prior to its scheduled break-down date, due to the controversy, something university officials have denied.
