U. of Wyoming Pays $8,571 Fine for Neglect of Research Goats

The U.S. Department of Agriculture imposed the penalty for the university’s treatment of 10 kids that had been genetically modified for research into the superstrong fiber of spider silk. One goat died. The research is no longer being conducted at the university.

The University of Wyoming acknowledges the problems and paid the $8,571 fine under a July 25 settlement agreement with APHIS, university spokesman Chad Baldwin said Friday.
