Margaret S. Crocco’s announcement on Monday that she would resign as dean of the University of Iowa’s College of Education followed reports last week that faculty members were embroiled in a dispute with the administration over the quality of her leadership. P. Barry Butler, the university’s provost, was accused of ordering the destruction of survey results that criticized Ms. Crocco’s performance. He has denied those allegations, saying that the comments have been retained in the dean’s file. In a written statement Mr. Butler credited Ms. Crocco for her “remarkable” accomplishments during her short tenure as dean.
