Sex-Assault Case Dropped Against Ex-Police Officer at Northern Illinois U.

The former officer, Andrew Rifkin, was fired after he had been accused of raping a student. But the police department came under scrutiny after Mr. Rifkin’s colleagues were accused of withholding evidence that could have cleared him of those charges. The university put its police chief and another officer on leave in the wake of those misconduct allegations.


DeKalb County State’s Attorney Clay Campbell called the NIU police’s mishandling of information “egregious” and said he had little confidence all the information in the case had been brought forth by the department.
