President of Baltimore City Community College Is Forced Out

The college’s president, Carolane G. Williams, said she had been caught off guard by the board’s abrupt action on Tuesday. But board members said they had been contemplating a new leader since the summer and were concerned about a sharp decline in enrollment this fall. Gov. Martin O’Malley of Maryland replaced a majority of the trustees last year in an effort to turn the college around after a series of problems.


The president of Baltimore City Community College is leaving her position immediately. The chair of the board of trustees announced Tuesday that she has been “separated” from the college, but a college spokesman would not elaborate.
