James Harrison Jr. was convicted in October of second-degree assault in connection with the filmed beating of a University of Maryland at College Park student during a basketball postgame celebration in 2010. Prosecutors had requested a six-month prison sentence, but a judge on Friday sentenced him to 30 days of home detention. Another officer had faced similar charges, but only Officer Harrison was convicted.
