The professor, Manoj Kumar Jha, was indicted by a federal grand jury on five counts of wire fraud in connection with an alleged scheme to defraud the National Science Foundation of grant money. In a news release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland said he had fraudulently obtained $200,000 in grant money for a highway project, through an NSF program for small-business technologies. The indictment alleges that he used the money for payments on his mortgage and credit card, and also to pay his wife $11,000 for work she did not perform.
