India’s Prime Minister Replaces Education Minister In Cabinet Overhaul

M.M. Pallam Raju replaces Kapil Sibal as the head of India’s Ministry of Human Resources Development, which oversees education in the country. Mr. Raju pledged to continue his predecessor’s reforms, which included a campaign to allow foreign universities to establish campuses in the country. Those reforms have been bogged down by divisions in India’s political system.


“The reforms introduced by Shri Kapil Sibal meant well and were forward looking and sensible. We need to build a (political) consensus for these (proposed) changes. That’s the job at hand,” said Raju.
