Conservative Instructor Seeks Retrial on All Counts in U. of Iowa Bias Case

The jury delivered a mixed outcome on Wednesday, deciding that the law school’s former dean was not guilty of political discrimination. It was unable to reach a verdict, however, as to whether the dean had violated the instructor’s equal-protection rights, leading to a mistrial on that count.


Teresa R. Wagner, a conservative Republican in a heated court battle with the University of Iowa, contends in legal documents filed on Thursday that a federal court acted inappropriately and denied her rights to poll the jury after its decision late Wednesday. She is asking for a retrial on all counts in the case, in which she alleges she was passed over for full-time jobs at the university’s law school because of her political ideology.
