Connecticut Officials Deny Rumor That College Leaders’ Jobs Are at Risk

The 12 community colleges have faced many changes this year. Their system was merged into the system for four-year state universities, and a new law limits their use of remedial courses. Into the mix came an e-mail from one of the presidents saying she and the 11 other leaders had been told they could take a buyout or risk termination. Michael P. Meotti, executive vice president of the state-college system, contradicts that:

Meotti said there are no plans to eliminate the positions of the presidents. He added that any individual college president’s routine evaluation would be the basis for nonrenewal, not another reorganization. “These positions will exist. Getting rid of them does not square with what we are doing.”
