Tenn. College Fires Coach Who Pleaded Guilty to Stealing Disability Checks

Southwest Tennessee Community College said on Friday that it had fired Benjamin Rhodes, its head men’s basketball coach and interim athletics director, in light of his recent decision to plead guilty in federal court to charges that he cashed some $12,800 in disability checks that belonged to other people.


Rhodes, 49, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to financial crimes related to government checks issued to his rental property tenants that Rhodes received and cashed after they were deceased.
