Gov. Pat Quinn of Illinois announced on Wednesday that he would not try to fire the two University of Illinois trustees who refused to resign in the wake of an admissions scandal, the Associated Press reported. Mr. Quinn also named his first two new appointees to the board: Christopher G. Kennedy, a businessman who is a son of the late Robert F. Kennedy, and Lawrence Oliver II, a former federal prosecutor. The governor plans to appoint five more trustees to fill out the nine-member board before its next meeting, scheduled for September 10.
