More than 700 faculty members at the University of California have signed a petition urging a systemwide walkout on September 24 to protest the university’s handling of its budget crisis, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The protest is intended to disrupt classes, to emphasize that furloughs, enrollment cuts, proposed tuition increases, and other budget-saving measures will affect the quality of education.
