A German publisher and former student activist who was planning to participate in an academic conference this week at Vassar College was denied entry to the United States last week. Karl Dietrich Wolff was to attend a conference on African-American civil rights and Germany in the 20th century but “will now participate in the conference via videoconferencing,” Vassar said in a written statement.

This is exactly why the Olympics will not be held in Chicago (or any other US city)as long as such immigration policies remain in place.CE

It is very sad that the Obama Administration seems to be following the same policies of “ideological exclusion” that the Bush Administration did. — Sandy Thatcher, Penn State University Press (former President of the Association of American University Presses)

Wow – even in Thailand we have better understanding of these types of freedoms – and thats saying a lot – I agree with CE about Obama following the Bush mind frame sad I’m a big fan of Obama too. We have a saying here in Thailand “Don’t Think Too Much” – I am afraid the new administration is following these word as well. — Assistant Professor Chris Johnson National Institute of Administration Development, Bangkok

I agree with those who state above that our restrictive immigration policies are the reason why the Olympic Committee did not select Chicago. Until we become in action what we say in words: that we welcome people here – we are going to become more and more isolated from the world community.

Wolff hates America-I’m okay with that…get in line, Herrn Wolff. Visiting this country is a privilege. Herrn Wolff lost the privilege to enter this country once before, from 1969-1987. Herrn Wolff cheered the Black Panther Party when they proposed violent revolution against the U.S. government. Herrn Wolff continues to villify and criticize America, Americans, and the U.S. government. So, Herrn Wolff hates America. Again, I’m okay with that–just hate us from outside our borders. Herrn Wolff’s visa wasn’t revoked at the airport, it had been revoked in 2003. He was trying to enter the U.S. on a visa that had been revoked six years ago. It appears that perhaps he wanted the airport drama and attendant publicity more than he actually wanted to enter the country. I’m just not feeling any sympathy for him.
