A new fund-raising survey shows mixed results for giving to colleges and other educational nonprofit organizations in the first nine months of 2010, compared with the same period last year. According to the survey, which was conducted by Indiana University’s Center on Philanthropy, GuideStar, and four other organizations, 38 percent of educational charities saw an increase in giving, while 34 percent reported a decrease and 28 percent reported no change. The study, which looked at all nonprofit sectors, found signs of optimism for year-end giving as well as daunting financial challenges for many organizations, The Chronicle of Philanthropy reports.
