Former Professor Says He Was Fired Because He Is Straight

August 5, 2010, 1:18 pm

Csaba Marosan, who was fired in 2009 from his job as a professor in the natural sciences department at Trocaire College, in Buffalo, claims he was let go because of his age and sexual orientation, The Buffalo News and ABC News reported. Dr. Marosan, who holds a medical degree in his native Hungary, is 51 and heterosexual; he says says his superiors at the Roman Catholic college gave preferential treatment to younger homosexual men. New York State human-rights officials have found some evidence supporting his complaint, which the college vigorously denies. A hearing on the complaint is scheduled for later this year.

I never cease to be amazed at the increasingly bazaar rationalizations that are offered by individuals who feel victimized by a management decision.

Unfortunately, management decisions are often made by those who wish to protect themselves or their friends/relatives. I’ve served at several distinct institutions and I’ve found that there is usually a small clique of individuals who hold sway on most management decisions. The facts are usually ignored in favour of clique preferences and self-interest. Don’t be amazed by this as most management folks in higher education lack training and ethical practices related to hiring and firing etc.

Probably the most important aspect of any kind of future of improved education is training in public administration for management spellling out both labor management do’s and don’t's, as well as basic concepts in productivity. Currently, many US education environments are …. astronomically horrible places to to work where a person can apply themselves, get used up and unceremoniously disposed of like trash. At least if you work a “dumb” hourly job, you can stay their forever and have a dignified life, much less the aspects of getting put on the hot-seat and being made to work in fear.I saw this done to one of the best professors I have ever had. He has huge experience in workplace and solid credentials and experience and was one of the only professors in a program who taught good, real, core content. So what happened to him? The trendy sociopath crowd put him on the hot-seat and made his life very uncomfortable. There are the folks who use corporate formula textbooks and run a department as if it for their own personal gain and profit.Oh, he is a white male. Did I mention that? Thoose putting him on the hot seat were not white-males. It was very aggressive. Now, go schedule an appointment with your internal medicine doctor to find out why you feel upset in your core, feel like hell all the time.PS This scape-goating white males has got to stop. Out of nowhere, I had a professor chew me out about it at a conference. It was like getting mugged.
