Former Nursing Students Awarded Damages in Lawsuit Against Virginia

July 5, 2011, 11:35 am

Sixteen former nursing students at Virginia Western Community College have been awarded $47,000 each by a jury that found the college had misled them about losing its national nursing accreditation. The jury in the fraud case awarded additional sums for breach of contract. The 16 are members of a group of 75 nursing students who are suing the state, The Roanoke Times reports. The students filed the lawsuit in 2007 with 59 plaintiffs, seeking $350,000 each. Three more groups of plaintiffs are still awaiting trial. The college itself was dismissed from the case in 2008, but the commonwealth of Virginia remains a defendant.

When public schools mislead it’s just a state taxpayer bailout .
