Flagship Public Universities Face Challenges but Remain Strong, Report Says

Flagship public universities are going through a tough transition, according to a report from Standard & Poor’s, a credit-rating agency. Their challenges include accounting changes, dwindling federal stimulus funds, and broad state budget cuts. Yet the sector’s credit ratings remain strong and stable, thanks in part to high student demand and manageable amounts of debt.
