After lengthy negotiations that nearly led to a strike vote, the faculty union and administrators at Eastern Michigan University have reached a tentative agreement on a two-year contract, the Detroit Free Press reported. Under the proposed contract, faculty members would get pay raises of 1 percent in the first year and 2 percent in the second, but would pay more toward health-insurance premiums. To take effect, the pact still must be ratified by union members and approved by the university’s governing board.
