Faculty members at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale are ending a weeklong strike after receiving a new proposal from administrators, officials of the union representing tenured and tenure-track professors announced on Wednesday night. The proposal is expected to become the basis of a tentative agreement that will be submitted to members for approval. The announcement did not reveal specific provisions of the proposal, saying some issues were still being ironed out, and bargaining teams were still working on the language. But faculty will return to classrooms on Thursday, it said.
