East Carolina U. Fires Official After Student Newspaper Prints Streaker Photos

East Carolina University has fired its director of student media, apparently because of his role as adviser to a student newspaper that published photographs of a male streaker at a November football game, according to The News & Observer, a newspaper in Raleigh, N.C. At the time, the university described The East Carolinian’s decision to publish the explicit photos as “in very poor taste.” But the university declined to state the reason for the dismissal of Paul Isom, a former reporter who had worked at the university since 2008. In an interview with The Daily Reflector, a newspaper in Greenville, N.C., he said he had been told only that the university “wanted to go in a different direction.” The streaker, a local resident who is not a student, faces charges of indecent exposure and trespassing.
