Dartmouth Chief Is Nominated to Lead World Bank

President Obama has nominated Jim Yong Kim, president of Dartmouth College, to lead the World Bank, the White House announced this morning. Dr. Kim, a Korea-born physician and anthropologist known for his work in the global fight against AIDS and tuberculosis, was tapped to lead Dartmouth three years ago. His administration at the Ivy League college has faced recession-induced cutbacks and has focused, among other things, on dealing with binge drinking. Under his leadership Dartmouth also played a leading role in helping Haiti after its devastating 2010 earthquake. Dr. Kim, a multisport athlete and winner of a MacArthur fellowship, commonly known as a “genius award,” also has a talent for song and dance, as demonstrated in videos from recent “Dartmouth Idol” shows.
